Soprano Rowan Pierce, Florilegium and Ashley Solomon present Tra le fiamme, a selection of secular Baroque cantatas and concertos.
Soprano Rowan Pierce joins Florilegium and Ashley Solomon in Tra le fiamme – a new recording of secular cantatas by Handel and JS Bach. Handel’s titular cantata (also known as Il consiglio, HWV 170) is in his Italian style, combining vocal virtuosity with deep emotional expressivity.
Bach’s Ich bin in mir vergnügt, BWV 204, is an elegant example from his secular cantatas. It stands out for its reflective exploration of themes of inner peace, contentment, and stoic philosophy – qualities that reflect Bach’s interest in moral and philosophical themes outside of his sacred oeuvre.
Also included here is the virtuosic finale, ‘Alleluia’, from Vivaldi’s motet, In furore iustissimae irae, RV 626, together with one of his chamber concertos, and the third from Handel's Op. 3 set of concerti grossi.

The album was released on Channel Classics on 29 August (digitally) and the CD is now available to purchase from the Florilegium website.
