Petros Singers

Monteverdi Vespers

with the English Cornett and Sackbut Ensemble and Monteverdi String Band

Monteverdi Vespers
The Petros Singers are thrilled to be returning to St James’s Piccadilly to perform the great masterpiece of the early Baroque, Monteverdi’s Vespers, alongside the English Cornett and Sackbut Ensemble, Monteverdi String Band, and a world-class line-up of soloists.

Claudio Monteverdi is rightly regarded as the first great master of large-scale choral music. His Vespro della Beata Vergine – better known simply as the Vespers, and nominally in honour of the Blessed Virgin – was published in 1610 and remains a landmark in the evolution of Western music. Seamlessly blending the rich traditions of Renaissance sacred music with the bold, expressive style of early opera, Monteverdi created a work of astonishing range and beauty.

By turns intimate and majestic, serene and dramatic, spiritual and sensual, the Vespers offers a dazzling array of sound, taking us on a vibrant and uplifting musical journey.
