About
This year’s concert series celebrates the remarkable breadth and expressive power of chamber music, bringing together some of today’s most distinguished performers in programmes that span more than three centuries.
The season opens with Rachel Podger and Alex Rolton in an intimate dialogue for violin and cello, pairing Bach’s inventive counterpoint with the elegance and drama of Corelli. The Doric String Quartet then explores the richness of the Classical and Romantic repertoire through works by Haydn, Schumann and Beethoven, before Lucy Crowe and Anna Tilbrook present an afternoon of art song encompassing the lyricism of Schubert, the colour of Debussy, the passion of Dvořák and the radiance of Strauss.
The series concludes with Iestyn Davies and Sergio Bucheli in a programme for voice, lute and theorbo, drawing on the haunting beauty and emotional directness of Dowland, Campion, Purcell and their contemporaries. From Baroque virtuosity and quartet masterpieces to song recitals of striking intimacy, the season offers familiar treasures alongside opportunities for discovery.
