About

From solo harpsichord recitals to fully staged opera, solemn sacred consorts to spectacular orchestral noise, hear tomorrow's performers push the music of the past in their direction.

In the warm acoustic of Guildhall's Milton Court Concert Hall, noted for its ability to celebrate every nuance of historical instruments, students encounter old repertoire for the first time, frequently performing alongside their professors and mentors.

Expect two projects a term, and look out for further performances at venues such as Hatchlands Park and the London International Festival of Early Music.

Recent highlights include:

  • Purcell: Dido and Aeneas (side-by-side with Academy of Ancient Music)

  • The Guildhall Krebs Harpsichord Competition

  • Guildhall Cantata Project (directed by James Johnstone) – sacred and secular cantatas and songs, but not Bach!

  • Handel: Alcina (side-by-side with Academy of Ancient Music)
