Esher Parish is pleased to present a mini-festival of music and worship at the Tudor-era Old St George’s Church in Esher to mark the 400th anniversary of the death of Orlando Gibbons on 5 June 1625. There will be three events:
Thursday 5 June at 5 pm:
‘The Silver Swan’: a harpsichord recital by Yat-Soon Yeo, featuring keyboard music by Gibbons, Byrd, Tomkins and their contemporaries in Jacobean England
Saturday 7 June at 5 pm:
A service of Choral Evensong with the New Eden Consort and Stuart Whatton (chamber organ), led by Revd Darren McCallig, Rector of Esher, featuring all-Gibbons repertoire
Sunday 8 June at 5 pm:
A concert of Renaissance music with Green Leaves Recorder Consort directed by William Summers
Advance booking not required - all events will be free admission with retiring collection.
Light refreshments will be served before the Evensong service and after the concerts.
Old St George's Church is located at the top of Esher High Street behind The Bear Inn. Esher BR station (half-hourly service from Waterloo) is about a one mile walk from the church. An alternative public transport option (entirely via Oyster) is a train to Surbiton follwed by a K3 bus, which terminates in Esher High Street.
