Marking the beginning of the ensemble’s residency at St James’ Sussex Gardens, the programme brings together two of Bach’s most celebrated works: the Harpsichord Concerto No. 1 in D minor and the cantata Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben (Cantata No. 147), written for the Feast of the Visitation.
Centred around themes of celebration, devotion and joy, the programme moves between virtuosic instrumental writing and expansive choral movements, culminating in the famous chorale Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring.
