The Duke's Consort
Lully, Lalande and Rebel
Music for the stage and the court by three titans of the French Baroque

Lully Atys; Cadmus et Hermione; Les plaisirs de l’île enchantée (excerpts)
Rebel Prélude et Rondeau from Pirame et Thisbé
Delalande Suite in E minor
The Duke's Consort presents a programme of music for the stage and court from Grand Siécle France, centred around the totemic figure of Jean-Baptiste Lully.
Movements from two of Lully's operas frame the programme, from his first – Cadmus et Hermione – and perhaps his grandest, Atys. The Deuxième Fantasie by Lalande was a favourite of Louis XIV, with its grand passacaglia like opening, dazzling fugue, and concluding series of dances, and Rebel's thrilling Air des Guerriers is a little performed gem from his operatic collaborations with Francoeur. An opportunity to hear some of the most sumptuous music of the age, and Lully's inescapable influence on his successors.
Performers:
Ela Kodžas, Sophia Mücke, Daphne Delfas, Alfred Fardell, Joseph Lowe violin
Dorota Kolinek, Madison Marshall, Matilda Mattich viola
Theodore Nisbett viol
Lize Dreyer, Zachary Earle cello
Isobel Nisbett violone
Gabriel Alves Candido da Silva recorder, traverso
Luke Mitchell director, harpsichord
