Garsington Opera’s period-instrument partner orchestra, The English Concert, perform Bach’s St Matthew Passion under the baton of its Artistic Director, Harry Bicket, in celebration of the work’s 300th anniversary year. One of Bach’s most admired compositions, St Matthew Passion is an oratorio setting of chapters 26 and 27 of the Gospel of St. Matthew, which detail the last days of Christ’s life. This powerful and moving work showcases The English Concert’s visceral, stylistically informed interpretation of Baroque repertoire.
