Palisander
Double, Double, Toil & Trouble
Supported by a grant from Continuo Foundation
Supported by Continuo Foundation
A programme exploring the themes of magic and music, with repertoire spanning 900 years performed on recorders 6 inches to 6 feet tall. Palisander employ their signature blend of spoken word, poetry and singing, with movement and choreography for a unique concert presentation.
The intrinsic links between music and magic have been recognised throughout time, with Plato, Galileo & Pythagoras all writing on this subject. This programme includes music reflecting the Renaissance concept of the Three Magics; songs used to spread word of witchcraft; melodies sent through dreams by supernatural beings; new compositions inspired by the ancient concept of Music and the Spheres and music inspired by humanityâs fascination with the mystical and magical.
Composers include J.S. Bach, Tartini, Sweelinck, Hildegard and new commissions based on historical mathematical calculations.
