J.S. Bach’s Cello Suites BWV 1007–1012 are now among his best-known works, but they were largely forgotten until the early 20th century. Most likely written during his time in Köthen, each suite is based on Baroque dance forms and combines clarity, control, and expressive detail.

This six-part concert series from the Oxford Bach Soloists features all six Cello Suites, with this concert featuring Irish cellist Jonathan Byers. Each performance also includes choral music from our scholars and keyboard works from our co-principal keyboardists.

Programme:
M. Praetorius
In dulci jubilo
Scheidt Puer natus in Bethlehem
JS Bach Der Tag, der ist so freudenreich (BWV 605)
Lassus Resonent in laudibus
Schütz Das Wort ward Fleisch (SWV 385)
