NCEM Young Composers Award

On Thursday 16 May, selected composers are invited to the NCEM to workshop their pieces during the day with composer Christopher Fox and singers from Ex Corde, directed by Paul Gameson. In the evening, we invite members of the public to join us in person, and online, to hear their pieces in concert format as judges Les Pratt, BBC Radio 3, Peter Phillips and Delma Tomlin choose the final selection of works.
The winning composers in both age categories will be invited to hear their pieces premiered by The Tallis Scholars at Saffron Hall, Suffolk in October, a concert which will be recorded for future broadcast on BBC Radio 3’s Early Music Show.

Each year, the NCEM invites talented young composers from across the UK to write a new work for a selected ensemble. In 2024 we are working with The Tallis Scholars directed by Peter Phillips to ask composers to create a work for voices based on Mirabile mysterium (A wondrous mystery) by Jacob Gallus (1550-1591).
