City of Dreams

An exploration of the cultural and musical development of Renaissance Florence, from the engineering challenges of constructing Brunelleschi's dome in the early 15th century to the creation of the first-ever opera for the 1600 wedding of Maria de' Medici. A narrator, taking the role of Maria, will weave a story around how artistic innovation, civic ambition, and creative problem-solving shaped the identity of the original 'city of dreams', brought to life in music by Dufay, Verdelot, Isaac and Caccini.
