In this season when the veil between worlds thins, the programme glimpses both sides of it through 13th- to 17th-century music. Cheerful and sombre dances form the skeleton of the programme, including a rare Danse Macabre. Fleshing these pieces out are light-hearted airs, dark ballads, and polyphonic madrigals and motets about the stuff of life, strange intermediary beings, and some very serious reflections on death and what might follow.
