After participating in St Mary the Virgin Lewisham’s All Souls’ Mass, Tramontana continues with a programme of sacred and secular music. In this season when the veil between worlds thins, Tramontana glimpses both sides of it through 13th- to 17th-century music. Cheerful and sombre dances form the skeleton of the programme, including a rare Danse Macabre. Fleshing these pieces out are lighthearted airs, dark ballads, and polyphonic madrigals and motets about the stuff of life, strange intermediary beings, and some very serious reflections on death and what might follow.
