Dowland’s Migrating Tunes

Dowland's lute music was adapted by his contemporaries for other instruments, ensembles and singers during his lifetime. One of his contemporaries was the Dutch recorder player and composer Jakob Van Eyck, who produced his own versions of tunes current in Utrecht - including a great deal of English music. This programme from recorder player and Renaissance flautist William Summers and Renaissance lutenist Stephen Carpenter will include well-known tunes by Dowland, including as Lachrymae, Daphne, and Go from My Window, and will represent the Elizabethan ‘broken consort’ with Lord Willoughby’s Welcome Home and other collaborations.
