Nightly Cares: A Pilgrim’s Solace
Dowland Day: Concert 2
John Dowland’s fascination with night culminated in his fourth and final songbook, A Pilgrimes Solace (1612). Depicting a dark night of the soul, Dowland’s songbook can be seen as a navigation through anxiety and insomnia where faith and music lead towards dawn and a kind of stoical resolution.
Dowland’s Foundry explores this extraordinary book through a contemporary mental health lens.
