The Geminiani Trio
Bach and Buxtehude
Sonatas and trios from two great German masters of the Baroque

Dietrich Buxtehude, a Danish-born organist and composer who spent most of his career in Lübeck was one of the most influential musicians of Bach's youth. The 20 year old Bach walked over four hundred kilometers from Arnstadt to visit the great master, which says everything about how important Buxtehude’s music was to the young Bach.
Irish harpsichordist Malcolm Proud formed the Geminiani Trio in the 1980’s, with Alison Bury as violinist. Along with John Dornenburg, who has made many concert appearances and recordings with Proud, the trio was re-formed in 2019 with concerts in Kilkenny and in 2021 in The Workshop Series. The trio has also played at the Sligo Early Music Festival and Hatchlands.
