Music at Waterdown House

An die Musik

Songs and fortepiano music by Schubert and Lachner

Kate Semmens (soprano), Ursula Paludan Monberg (natural horn), Steven Devine (piano)

An die Musik
A unique chance to hear a new programme being premiered - exploring this wonderful repertoire on period instruments in the salon atmosphere for which it was written.

Franz Schubert (1797 - 1828) and Franz Paul Lachner (1803 - 1890) were friends and both had a very special ability to capture moods and emotions in their writing. In this programme the disctinctive and beautiful sound of the natural horn - played by one of the finest exponents of the instrument - is partnered with the "warm, expressive and colourful soprano" (thecrosseyedpianist.com) of Kate Semmens and the fortepiano playing of Steven Devine, who is no stranger to the wonderful instruments in the former collection of Finchcocks Museum, now housed here in Waterdown House.

This concert will feature a fortepiano made by Johann Fritz c.1815 - one of the most beautiful pianos in the collection. An intimate and beautiful evening, not-to-be-missed.
