Lorena Cantó Woltèche

Lorena Cantó Woltèche
Lorena Cantó Woltèche is a baroque viola player and recording artist based in London. She is a regular guest with La Nuova Musica, performing in sold-out UK and international concert halls under artistic director David Bates, and a member of Felix Ensemble, exploring a wide-ranging chamber repertoire on gut strings led by violinist Jane Gordon. This includes Telemann’s Viola Concerto at the Vinehall International Concert Series in 2025.

Growing up in a family of historical performers, she developed a passion for early music at a young age. During her studies at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, she first takes on baroque viola with Academy of Ancient Music concertmaster Pavlo Beznosiuk.

Alongside her growing career as a baroque violist, Lorena’s modern playing is influenced by this practice. Until 2022, she was a member of the Jubilee String Quartet, with whom she recorded two critically acclaimed albums for Rubicon Classics and won first prize at the Gianni Bergamo Classic Music Awards (Switzerland). Their playing is described as having a “lightness which links to historical practice” (Planet Hugill).

On modern viola, Lorena leads and co-leads in a number of UK orchestras, holds a sub-principal position with the Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra, has appeared as a soloist at venues including the Berlin Konzerthaus and London's Wigmore Hall, and has featured on BBC Radio 3's In Tune, Classic FM and Radio Clásica (Spain).
