Iestyn Davies

Dowland 400th-Anniversary Weekend

featuring Mary Bevan, Thomas Hobbs, Neal Davies, Thomas Dunford and more

Iestyn Davies - Dowland 400th-Anniversary Weekend
Iestyn Davies curates Wigmore Hall’s Dowland 400th-Anniversary Weekend, a tribute to the composer whose music lay silent for centuries before its 20th-century revival. Across three immersive concerts, Davies and an exceptional roster of singers and instrumentalists, including soprano Mary Bevan, tenor Thomas Hobbs, and bass-baritone Neal Davies, accompanied by Thomas Dunford’s masterful lute-playing, trace Dowland’s creative journey through his three ‘Bookes of Songes or Ayres’. Bookending these are two more concerts: a programme of modern reflection on Dowland's music, featuring works by Britten and Nico Muhly, which kicks off the weekend; and A Pilgrimes Solace of 1612, an enchanting late collection of secular and devotional part-songs, and solo songs.
