Handel Operas this Summer

There are several productions of operas by GF Handel coming to stages across the UK this summer.

Passion, magic and truly spectacular singing: Longborough Festival Opera's new production of Handel’s epic fantasy opera Orlando is directed by Sinéad O’Neill, with the Academy of Ancient Music conducted from the harpsichord by Baroque specialist Christopher Moulds.

David Alden directs a thrilling new production of Handel’s most celebrated opera, starring countertenor Tim Mead as Giulio Cesare and soprano Sarah Brady as Cleopatra, with Christian Curnyn conducting the period-instrument orchestra Early Opera Company in their Grange Festival debuts.

Laurence Cummings directs Academy of Ancient Music and a world-class cast in a concert performance of Serse – Handel’s sensational opera of love and power in ancient Persia – at the Barbican.

Handel’s fifth opera, Amadigi di Gaula, was first performed in London in 1715, in the first season under the reign of George I, at the King’s Theatre on the Haymarket. Erin Helyard conducts the English Concert in a production by director Olivia Fuchs, starring Rowan Pierce and Hilary Cronin among others.
