ZAREKtrio

I Predict a Riot

Old Sounds, new Unrest

I Predict a Riot
Set between the Gunpowder Plot and the English Civil War, ZAREKtrio explores the turbulent spirit of the 17th century – a time of great faith, upheaval, dissent, and artistic defiance.

The concert opens with Coprario, Lawes and Jenkins' Fantasia Suites, followed by 'A Pavane for These Sad, Distracted Times' (1649) by Thomas Tomkins, and ends with consort music in 4 parts by Matthew Locke and Henry Purcell.

Join ZAREKtrio for a little upheaval. Be a dissenter – switch off your phone, grab a drink and some food, and join us.

ZAREKtrio – violinistt Rebecca Harris, gambist Jan Zahourek, and harpsichordist Oliver JohnRuthven – brings a fresh approach to Early Music, performing on period instruments for audiences ranging from seasoned concert-goers to the simply curious. Acclaimed for their 'rare blend of relaxed ambience, unique sound, and masterful musicianship', they have performed at venues as varied as Brasenose College, Oxford; the Thüringer Bachwochen; Leighton House; Brixton's Beer Lab; and, of course, Rocketvan Studio.
