Toby Carr

Softest Thunder

Album launch

Softest Thunder
This intimate and atmospheric concert brings together music spanning hundreds of years, united by a common sense of soft-edged, delicate but resonant beauty. Lutenist composers John Dowland and Robert Johnson represent the zenith of the English renaissance, with their 400-year-old dances and fantasies interwoven here with transcriptions of Erik Satie’s dream-like, genre-defying dances, and Blue, a new commission by Laura Snowden for this project.

Join Gramophone Award winner and PAW regular Toby Carr for a luxurious listening experience, and hear the unique sound of the lute, its ‘Softest Thunder.’

‘Toby Carr made the delicate lute harmonies gleam like rain drops on a spider’s web.’
- Rachel Halliburton, The Arts Desk
