In Echo

The Salt Road

With Horatio Clare

The Salt Road
The ancient Salt Road between Lüneburg and Lübeck, walked by JS Bach on his way to meet Buxtehude, has existed beyond memory. It was a vital artery for transporting the ‘white gold’ upon which the wealth of the region depended. The music of these two towns is celebrated here in an evocative fusion of music and poetry, of journeys real and imagined, physical and spiritual. The programme brings together an eclectic combination of works from composers including Johann Sommer, JS Bach, Nathanael Schnittelbach, William Brade, and Heinrich Schütz, along with a new commission from organist Silas Wollston: performed by leading period instrument ensemble, In Echo, with readings from writer and broadcaster, Horatio Clare.
