The Morley Consort

Of Still and Loud Noise

A Musical History of Devon

Of Still and Loud Noise

continuo logoSupported by a grant from Continuo Foundation

'Of Still and Loud Noise' is a five-concert tour of South Devon and London, featuring music representing notable moments in Devon’s history.

Encompassing King Arthur, Viking raids, civil war and climate change, and using spoken introductions of period first-hand accounts, the project focuses on the infamous Devonian Francis Drake. In London – aboard a recreation of Drake’s vessel – historical readings will be interspersed with details of his circumnavigation, recognising that 'expert musitians' playing 'four viols [which] made lamentations' were aboard the voyage. The Morley Consort's programme mirrors the unique intimacy of their music-making with our own journey through land and sea.
