A Celebration of Palestrina and Bach with The Marian Consort

with The English Cornett and Sackbut Ensemble

A Celebration of Palestrina and Bach with The Marian Consort

continuo logoSupported by a grant from Continuo Foundation

A fascinating programme that demonstrates the huge influence of Palestrina (The Prince of Music) on subsequent generations of musicians, among them the towering figure of JS Bach.
As well as Palestrina's Missa sine nomine in his own version with added instruments, Bach performed works by Palestrina's contemporaries with his choir at St Thomas's Leipzig. Alongside these are pieces from Schütz's Italian-influenced Geistliche Chormusik, dedicated to the city of Leipzig and the musicians of St Thomas's.

'Singing one person to a part, The Marian Consort give sublimely refined, spacious and impeccably tuned performances.' – The Sunday Times

'The Marian Consort are among the best singers in the world.' – theartdesk.com
