Daniel Pioro

Salvation is Created

with David Gordon and Jonas Nordberg

Salvation is Created
Daniel Pioro’s programme, framed by the haunting sounds of David Lang’s mystery sonatas and Abbess Hildegard’s antiphon to the eternal God, speaks to the deep human need for reassurance that, in divine words reported by Julian of Norwich, ‘all shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well’. He is joined by David Gordon and Jonas Nordberg in Biber’s meditations on the agony of Christ’s Passion and his defeat on the cross, necessary conditions for the resurrection that followed.

Daniel Pioro - violin

David Gordon - harpsichord, chamber organ

Jonas Nordberg - lute

Programme:

David Lang - mystery sonatas: joy, after joy

Heinrich Biber

  • Mystery Sonata VI in C minor 'The Agony in the Garden'

  • Mystery Sonata VII in F 'The Scourging at the Pillar'

  • Mystery Sonata VIII in B flat 'The Crowning with Thorns'

  • Mystery Sonata IX in A minor 'The Carrying of the Cross'

  • Mystery Sonata X in G minor 'The Crucifixion'

David Lang - mystery sonatas: before glory, glory

Hildegard of Bingen - O eterne Deus
