ornate ceiling of the palace of versailles from below, with a round stained glass window in the centre
Programme:
Appel d’Olifant
Fanfares en échos (15th century)
Sanz Chaconne (sackbutt and organ)
Purcell 'Funeral March' and 'Canzone' from Music for the Funeral of Queen Mary
Snow Two duets
Charpentier Prélude from Te Deum

Performers:

Jean-Daniel Souchon trumpet
Antoine Azuelos trumpet
Jean-Charles Denis trumpet
Claire-Ombeline Muhlmeyer trumpet
Manon Duchemann percussion
Gaétan Jarry organ, conductor

From the medieval hunting horn (oliphant) to the slide trumpet, the sound of brass has transformed and reinvented itself through the centuries – like chapters in a living story. This concert takes listeners on a journey from 15th-century fanfares and the drama of military calls to the elegance of Baroque music and the colorful soundscapes of Spain, England, and France. Along the way, we’ll encounter great composers such as Marc-Antoine Charpentier and Henry Purcell, alongside royal music and lively popular tunes – all showing how the trumpet has found its voice in different times and places.

The concert is designed to be lively, engaging, and family-friendly: with short introductions and interactive demonstrations that bring the instruments, their techniques, and their vibrant energy to life.

Each piece opens a window onto a world where music, history, and imagination meet. Step into this musical journey, where sound itself tells the story – inviting you to listen, discover, and be swept away.
