Dragonetti's Waltzes
A recital and talk about Dragonetti's 12 waltzes.
Dragonetti was an important performer and figure in London during the 1800s and has mostly been forgotten. During his career he was one of the highest paid musicians in the country, and he moved to London with many other Italians during the period where opera gripped British society. He bought with him a very particular (and peculiar!) type of bow which he refined over his life time and played on three gut strings using Italian instruments. He saw out the classical era, possibly met Beethoven, and was around the New Romantics who dominated the European art music of the time. Come and meet this eccentric's music, with questions welcome at the end of a journey into the first solo bass pieces that would have been heard in this country.
If you're curious to know more about these curious little pieces, I will be uploading some videos on Patreon which you can subscribe to watch: patreon.com/RosieMoon
