Josquin Jukebox: Choral Workshop

Josquin Jukebox: Choral Workshop
Platinum Consort's director Scott Inglis-Kidger invites you to step up to the jukebox and explore the music of Josquin des Prez. He was a central figure of the Franco-Flemish school and arguably the most influential composer of his generation. His works, which were circulated widely across Europe in the early age of music printing, were admired for their expressive text-setting and clarity of line. This programme draws together motets that reveal his remarkable range: from luminous, imitative textures to moments of striking directness. His compositions are packed with beautiful, singable melismas, making it clear that Josquin was himself a singer. Each piece offers a different facet of a composer whose reputation, even in his own lifetime, bordered on legendary.

Platinum Consort workshops are designed for confident amateur singers who prefer to sing repertoire in smaller groups (around 30 singers, in this case). Good preparation of the music, or good sight-reading, is therefore expected. Vocal technique is also high on the agenda, ensuring a good sound and blend. Platinum welcomes participants who have not sung with them before. The session finishes at 17:30.

Programme:
Josquin des Prez Ave Maria ... virgo serena
Josquin des Prez Descendi in ortum meum
Josquin des Prez In principio erat verbum
Josquin des Prez Rubum quem viderat Moyses

  • date Wed, 22 July 2026
  • location St Barnabas Church, London SW1
  • time 2:00pm
  • ticket £45
