One cello. One of the greatest composers who ever lived. Music of extraordinary beauty, performed in the intimate glow of candlelight.

Experience the timeless music of Johann Sebastian Bach in a setting that brings you unusually close to both performer and music.

Bach’s Suites for Solo Cello are among the most beautiful and enduring works in the classical repertoire. Written more than 300 years ago, they take a single instrument on an extraordinary journey – from the instantly recognisable opening of the First Suite to music that can be joyful and exhilarating one moment, deeply reflective the next.

With no orchestra and no accompaniment, there is nowhere for the music to hide. Just a single cellist, Bach’s extraordinary writing and the warm, resonant sound of the cello.

Surrounded by the gentle glow of candlelight, this intimate one-hour recital offers the chance to leave the outside world behind and become immersed in some of the most profound and beautiful music ever written for a solo instrument.

Whether you already love Bach or are simply looking for an hour of beautiful music and tranquillity, Bach by Candlelight is an opportunity to experience these remarkable works at their most immediate.
