An Anatomy of Melancholy

The Fall of the Leaf

An Anatomy of Melancholy
The programme brings together an anachronistic dialogue between Johann Sebastian Bach, Monique Gabus and Imogen Holst around the cello, conceived as a meeting place between eras and people with very different feelings. The common thread that links the different pieces is the desire to show how the same instrument can be used to express a wide spectrum of feelings and emotions around the autumnal melancholy of the cello.

Programme:
Monique Gabus
Déploration pour une amie défunte
JS Bach Cello Suite no 2 (Prélude - Allemande - Courante - Sarabande - Menuett I & Menuett II - Gigue)
Imogen Holst The Fall of the Leaf, III. Poco Adagio
JS Bach Cello Suite no 4 (Prélude - Allemande - Courante - Sarabande - Bourree I & Bourree II - Gigue)
