A real end of year treat as the OAE presents Marin Marais' La Gamme, a 35-minute piece for violin, gamba and harpsichord in the form of a small opera. The very simple plot device of a rising and falling scale provides a stage for the remarkable virtuosity and harmonic invention that marks out Marais' music. The second set will include pieces by Rameau and Buxtehude.
