Newe Vialles

Old Viols

Old Viols

continuo logoSupported by a grant from Continuo Foundation

A rare opportunity to hear two spectacular and historically important original English viols, by John Pitts (1675) and Edward Lewis (1703), played together live in concert.

Newe Vialles are coming to Folkestone to perform pieces from their recent CD, Newe Vialles - Old Viols, a programme exploring the music that the original owners of these viols might have known and played. The concert includes works by Christoper Simpson, John Jenkins, Benjamin Hely, Nicola Matteis and others, plus Newe Vialles' own arrangements of popular melodies of the time. The sound of the two original viols is enhanced by a vibrant and colourful continuo section of theorbo and baroque guitar.
