The Sonata and Stylus Phantasticus
Exploring the early development of the sonata and, in particular, the 'stylus phantasticus' or fantastical (quasi-improvisatory) style, this programme showcases the violin and viola da gamba as equal melodic partners and also provides an opportunity to hear solo keyboard music by one of the most fascinating composers for the harpsichord.
