Musica Antica Rotherhithe

Virtuosissime

Strozzi, Bembo, Settima & Francesca Caccini at The Queen's House

Lucine Musaelian (soprano and viola da gamba)

Virtuosissime
Musica Antica present music by four of the most celebrated female composers of their day - Barbara Strozzi, Antonia Bembo, Settima and Francesca Caccini - alongside music by the men who taught them: Giulio Caccini, Jacopo Peri, and Francesco Corbetta and Francesco Cavalli.

Remaining true to the way in which this music would have been performed in the seventeenth century, the majority of this programme will be sung self-accompanied, and all of it accompanied on instruments which were most commonly used in the intimate, domestic settings in which women performed secular music: the viol, theorbo and guitar, and pentagonal virginals.

This programme will also be performed at 6:45pm. Each concert will last 50 minutes.
