Milady Clare's Musicke

Songs for the Summer Solstice

An evening of Early Music and traditional songs

Songs for the Summer Solstice
Early music group Milady Clare's Musicke invites you to a very informal concert to celebrate the Summer Solstice.

In pre-Roman times the Celts referred to the longest day as Alban Hefin or 'The Light of the Shore' and marked it – as with the Winter Solstice – by lighting bonfires to symbolically augment the power of the sun before the late summer harvests. These celebrations were accompanied by dancing and singing – and probably far too much drinking and general mayhem!

Unfortunately, today's Health and Safety regulations rather limit the scope for mayhem in the Village Hall, but there will be lots of lovely early and traditional songs, together with instrumental music played on beautifully reconstructed early instruments. As with the carols in December, words of some of the songs will be provided, so please bring your lovely voices!

Admission is free and includes refreshments during the break – donations are welcome (cash or card) towards the cost of the hall and catering.

  • date Sun, 21 June 2026
  • location Great Horwood Village Hall, Buckinghamshire
  • time 7:00pm
  • ticket Free
