John Dowland is known for his lute solos and songs, but there was a lively tradition of duet, trio and lute-in-ensemble playing at Elizabeth's court and bigger lute bands in the Jacobean masque, which Lynda Sayce, one of the leading researchers on the renaissance and baroque lutes, and founder of the Chordophony Lute Quartet, explores in this talk.
