A perennial question hanging over the whole early music revival is what musical strings we should use, and for no instrument as much as for the lute, which has to have over two octaves of strings all the same length, all making a good sound, and before metal-wound strings were available - moreover the bridge holes on surviving lutes don't seem big enough for the bass strings we would assume would be used.
