Summer Journeys, Old & New

Summer Journeys, Old & New
Presenting an hour of music reflecting the joys of 18th century and contemporary summer leisure, entertainments of the Pleasure Gardens, the Grand Tours, travel and life’s journey.

Elin Harries (soprano) is delighted to be introducing a new work written for her by Timothy Roberts, weaving snatches of Welsh folk tunes with words from Wikipedia texts on abandoned Welsh railway stations. Other contemporary music includes Journeying, written by Rebecca Rowe for Ibrahim Aziz and Markus Zahnhausen’s Summer, performed by Andrew Collis on solo recorder, and Rubbra’s Cantata Pastorale.

Baroque and early Classical offerings include songs and cantatas by Hook, Yates, and Bononcini; Haydn's Welsh folk song arrangements; and a Domenico Scarlatti Sonata from Asako Ogawa’s newly released CD.
