La Serenissima

Crossing Borders

18th Century Musical Travels Across the Italian Border

Adrian Chandler (violin/director)

Crossing Borders
La Serenissima, directed by violinist Adrian Chandler, explores the fusion of musical styles across 18th-century Europe.

This programme unites Vivaldi’s virtuosic Bohemian concertos with music by two European composers, Ariosti and Corbett, whose travels may have enabled them to work ‘undercover’ as spies, alongside a fantastic example of Telemann’s ‘mixed taste’.

Twice winners of the Gramophone Award, La Serenissima is celebrated for its vivid performances, scholarly insight and rediscovery of forgotten masterpieces. With infectious energy and expressive precision, the ensemble brings to life the brilliance, beauty and enduring legacy of Italy's golden age.

Programme:
Ariosti Ouverture to La Placidia for strings & continuo
Vivaldi Concerto for violin, strings & continuo in B flat, RV 380
Corbett Concerto IV alla Fiorentina for strings & continuo in b, Opus 8, Libro II
Vivaldi Concerto for 2 violins, strings & continuo per eco in lontano in A, RV 552
Vivaldi Concerto for violin, strings & continuo in g, RV 330
Telemann Ouverture-Suite for strings & continuo in a, TWV 55:a5
