The English Orpheus

The Songs of Henry Purcell

With David Wright (harpsichord & organ)

The English Orpheus
Spanning his short creative life, Henry Purcell’s songs appeared repeatedly throughout his life. In between his Odes, the semi-operas and instrumental music lies a profusion of wonderfully intimate and occasionally explicit songs. Clearly written for his friends, the texts feature both Shakespeare and Dryden amongst others.

In 1698, three years after his death, his songs were published complete in Orpheus Britannicus.
Kieran White now balances a thriving international career with life on his family farm. Acclaimed for his “extraordinary emotional clarity” (Opera Magazine) and “pure, luminous tenor voice” (The Guardian), he is a British tenor known for his expressive interpretations of Baroque and early music.

As a winner of the Broadwood Harpsichord Competition, David Wright is in wide demand as a soloist and accompanist, touring worldwide with Red Priest.
