Music for a Summer Afternoon
A Recital for Organ and Harpsichord: Keyboard Journeys and the Art of Transcription
The organ programme turns to the art of transcription, revealing how music was adapted and reimagined for the keyboard in the Baroque era. Handel's orchestral writing, Bach's celebrated arrangement of a Vivaldi concerto, Pachelbel's chorale variations, and concerto transcriptions by Corelli demonstrate the organ's ability to capture both the grandeur of the orchestra and the intimacy of devotional music. Together, these programmes celebrate the creativity, imagination, and expressive possibilities of the Baroque keyboard while highlighting the unique voices of both the harpsichord and the organ.

Music for a Summer Afternoon brings together two complementary programmes for harpsichord and organ, exploring the variety of Baroque keyboard music through the themes of dance, variation, ornamentation, and transcription. From the expressive grounds of Renaissance England and the Netherlands to the brilliance of the Italian sonata, the elegance of the French suite, and the richly characterised music of the French clavecinistes, the harpsichord programme traces the evolution of keyboard style across Europe.
