The Revolting Maid (Pergolesi's La Serva Padrona)
THE REVOLTING MAID
An award-winning pocket opera in two acts
"Laugh-out-loud funny... a wonderful, joyous evening" – Dame Felicity Lott

One English gentleman with more money than sense.
One mutinous chambermaid seeking a life of luxury.
One unsuspecting audience member. What can possibly go wrong?

The Revolting Maid is a new award-winning English translation of Pergolesi’s classic domestic farce La serva padrona. Wily chambermaid Medusa has had enough of her pompous and overbearing master, Sir Hubert. So she comes up with a masterplan: trick him into marrying her, so that she can take over the household and live a life of luxury on her own terms.

Directed by internationally acclaimed baroque specialist Sophie Daneman, and performed by rising stars Theano Papadaki and George Robarts, this high-tempo one-hour comedy is "entertaining, intelligible, and endlessly witty" (Michael Chance).

George Robarts's new English libretto won the John Dryden Translation Prize, and the production has been generously supported by the City Music Foundation and the Rosemary Joyce Suggate Trust.
