Bach and the Mendelssohn Family

Curated by Jean Paterson, this programme takes inspiration from the Mendelssohn family's celebrated Sonntagsmusiken – the Sunday salons held at their Berlin home, where Bach's music was revered and regularly performed.

Bringing together works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Fanny Mendelssohn, and Felix Mendelssohn, including Bach's Kunst der Fuge, Mozart's arrangement of a Bach fugue, and Felix's String Quintet in A major, this is an intimate portrait of a family bound together by music and of Bach's enduring shadow over those who came after him.
