The Salt Road

with Horatio Clare (reader)

The Salt Road

continuo logoSupported by a grant from Continuo Foundation

The ancient Salt Road between Lüneburg and Lübeck was both a vital trading route for 'white gold' and the path JS Bach took on his 400-mile pilgrimage to hear Buxtehude, a composer he revered. Horatio Clare shares reflections on walking in his footsteps, alongside music by Bach, Buxtehude and others, including a world premiere by Silas Wollston, brought to life by the distinctive colours of cornetto, sackbut, strings and organ.
