il Pomo d’Oro Choir

A Venetian Christmas

A Venetian Christmas
A Venetian Christmas resounds in il Pomo d’Oro’s unmissable seasonal celebration, crammed with songs of praise and exquisite choral prayers written for or inspired by St Mark’s in Venice.

Its majestic programme traces the lineage of composers who studied there with the Basilica’s organist, Giovanni Gabrieli, Alessandro Grandi and Heinrich Schütz among them, and the direct influence of its greatest musician of all, Claudio Monteverdi, over Giovanni Rovetta and Francesco Cavalli.

Programme:
Alessandro Grand
i Deus in adiutorium
Claudio Monteverdi Dixit Dominus (Primo)
Andrea Gabrieli Angelus ad pastores
Giovanni Rovetta Confitebor
Giovanni Bassano Quem vidistis pastores
Claudio Monteverdi Beatus vir (Secondo)
Heinrich Schütz Verbum caro factum est

Giovanni Gabrieli O Jesu mi dulcissime
Claudio Monteverdi Laudate Dominum (Terzo)
Francesco Cavalli Salve regina
Alessandro Grandi Magnificat
