His Majestys Sagbutts and Cornetts

Echoes of Medieval Coventry

With The Binchois Consort

Echoes of Medieval Coventry

continuo logoSupported by a grant from Continuo Foundation

His Majesty's Sagbutts and Cornetts join forces with the Binchois Consort, directed by Andrew Kirkman, for a free lunchtime concert of music associated with medieval and early Tudor Coventry.

This performance showcases the AHRC-funded project Aural Histories: Coventry 1451-1642, a musical and architectural history that seeks new insights into the experience of music in the City of Coventry during a period of immense cultural change.

Featuring music appropriate to the first of the project’s two ‘time-slices’: 1451, when Henry VI attended Mass in St Michael’s church (the former Coventry Cathedral); and 1528, when a new organ was built for the (still standing) church of Holy Trinity. The concert will include the Kyrie and Agnus Dei from the anonymous Coventry Missa Caput, Gaude virgo mater Christi by Hugh Aston, and a selection of instrumental music for Tudor wind band.

  • date Fri, 28 November 2025
  • location Elgar Concert Hall, Birmingham
  • time 1:00pm
  • ticket Free
