Facets of Time

Lute song exploring the Elizabethan understanding of Time

Daniel Thomson (tenor), Sam Brown (lute)

Facets of Time
Award-winning tenor Daniel Thomson and Sam Brown, “the Eric Clapton of the lute,” present Facets of Time—a dramatic performance based around Elizabethan England’s most iconic artists, William Shakespeare and John Dowland. Time was for the Renaissance a central fascination: this performance sees Old Time evoked in songs of love and stoicism, nightmarishly scrambled by Macbeth, and vanquished by Elizabeth I.

Since their first meeting at Emma Kirkby’s kitchen table, Sam and Daniel have performed widely across the UK and developed an impeccable ensemble marked by a sincere love and understanding of lute song.

For this recital programme, members of Dowland's Foundry and Lute_Tok, Daniel and Sam will perform as a duo.
