Delights to the Ear

A celebration of John Dowland

Delights to the Ear
Daniel Thomson and Sami Brown of Dowland’s Foundry perform a duo programme commemorating 400 years since Dowland’s death. They explore his multifaceted genius in his own music and that of the contemporaries he influenced. Come and hear about Dowland’s rivalry with Campion, the intricacies of the Elizabethan courts, and how Dowland influenced his peers with his most famous tune.

They were reviewed earlier this month by Živilė Tamaševičienė for a performance of this programme in Banchetto Musicale Festival, Lithuania.

‘Thomson’s warm timbre, subtle nuances of pronunciation and concentration on the meaning of the words made it impossible to turn away from the narrative for even a moment. It was particularly striking that the singer sat beside the lutenist… The audience witnessed not performers giving a concert, but two close friends engaged in an intimate conversation.’ – Živilė Tamaševičienė, 7 meno dienos

John Dowland Time stands still
